FRANCESCMONTOSA+ARCHITECTS

The commission asked to rethink the interior space of a traditional chinese pavilion where a delicate Italian ice cream shop could coexist.

The original space follows an L shape plan with an area of 45 square meters, enclosed with a characteristic paneled facade of wooden lattice doors.

The challenge extended beyond the design approach: special consideration was given to the local suppliers limitations, the construction quality standards and the language difficulties.

The new layout organization is consequence of a deep collaboration with the client to satisfy its requirements and provide a highly efficient space.

The different functions are integrated within a highly tailored piece of furniture to be inserted as a precise mechanism into the framed existing space. It clearly separates the production and seating areas while unifying the whole space.

Neutral and abstract in terms of shape and material, it denies any stylistic reference, thus emphasizing our respect towards the original construction components meanwhile offering an elegant and comfortable atmosphere, helping to create a powerful and sophisticate brand image.

The existing facade,  is also rethinked in concept by repositioning the original components inside a new metal frame, creating a highly transparent facade where daylight and visuals are filtered through the delicate lattice doors.
