The building is located on the west edge of the city of Hangzhou, close to Zhejiang University’s Zijingang Campus.
The site is a bustling intersection between two major roads, Gudun Road and Yuying Road and the area is filled with large office and commercial buildings.

The competition brief asked for a mixed-use building to accommodate commercial and office space besides underground parking space, with a height limit of 80 meters.

Our vision was to create a building that offers valuable working space and generates a new urban space for the area.

The building has been conceived with a clear public vocation. It contains a podium filled with three commercial floors and fifteen office floors above separated by a double height public terrace and an auditorium occupying floors 4th and 5th. The whole podium is understood as an extension of the street urban life and they both work together to activate the area after the work hours.

The building footprint occupies the maximum allowed area of the site and it is comprised of two plates with different depth sliding one against the other on the east-west direction.

These two blocks are separated by an atrium that enhances the quality of the interior atmosphere, bringing fresh air and maximizing the sunlight diffusion inside the building.

This displacement also contributes to organize the outdoor urban space and circulations, creating different entrances for office, commercial and vehicles within the same space.
The public space is focused on the south facade with direct access from Yuying Road, providing the longest facade dimensions for commercial space and offering plenty of open space for terraces and commercial events. The office entrance, on the east elevation, is more private and can be approached by car without interfering with the public space.

Besides, the glazed atrium becomes a recognizable full height entrance hall from the street level that helps to define the building character.

The facade is clad in a white colour curtain wall, protected on the south elevations with a layer of aluminium sun shades for a better control of the lighting levels and reduce heating gains in summer.
