The project is located in a zone of strategic importance for the city of Tai’an after the arrival of the high-speed railway to the symbolic city.

Next to the railway station, this mixed-use complex of buildings will help to anchor Tai’an´s new Central Business District in an area designed and built from scratch.

The site is 5.5 Ha in size and the scheme encompasses a podium with 4 levels of commercial space to be filled with retail space, restaurants, cafes and cinemas, three levels of underground parking space, two hotel towers, one office tower and one apartment tower rising all of them up to 100 meters in height.

With such dimensions, we took into consideration the vast urban dimensions that make hard to find the human scale as a challenge to create a more liveable urban space and achieve a sense of community.

The layout follows a modern reinterpretation of the Chinese traditional courtyard building escalated to a larger urban scale.

Given the high density of vehicles and high rise buildings on the area, the podium becomes highly permeable on the first floor to absorb the people from the stressful surrounding streets.

The towers are organized around the perimeter of the site, following a meticulous analysis of the traffic and pedestrian patterns in connexion with the city and the railway station, the shadows they cast and the visuals between them, thus reinforcing the idea of a central public heart.

The towers and podium are clad with a glazed curtain wall that reflects the environment during the day and becomes a lantern at night, with an emphasis on the metal framework that recalls the lattice windows found on the traditional local architecture.
